Mainly not blaming anyone and staying friends, especially in front of the kids. So essential. I'm giving this to you from the child's perspective. My parents divorced in the 60's when no one was getting divorced and they did so many things right. I saw my dad every weekend, unheard of, way before shared custody. Was with him on school breaks and holidays. And he only moved one suburb over from us. We were always an integral part of his life and the center of our mom's. They never disagreed in front of us. They were friends first and foremost and good parents always. They raised four pretty terrific kids together, and I'm sure it wasn't easy, but we were not burdened with the difficulties of it.

Divorce is hard on kids and there will be fall-out believe me, there always is. Stay strong, stay courageous. Love them and each other with all the friendship muscle you have and your family will be okay. Ours was! Love you always! My kids have one set of white socks that are all the same, but are different enough in that they are Hanes or whatever that have pink vs gray bottoms/toes. They are coming with these fabulous letters in the band now that tell you the size too! SO I can easily filter one size out when we move up a size.

Then they have at least 2 PAIRS of every other kind of socks. I always buy two packs of "cute" socks so that I ultimately shouldn't ever end up with ONE lonely sock (though amazingly it still happens here or there).

Also... and maybe my best laundry strategy in general is that I wash everything on cold and don't sort colors, etc... each kid & mom have 2 laundry baskets-one in their rooms for accumlating dirty laundry and one that can be in the process of being washed.

The kids know that their dirty clothes go in their basket as soon as they come off. When full, they get washed. Makes folding and taking care of MUCH easier. And then I'm only wrestling making their own socks match.

I like socks too much to make my kids wear the same all the time (all one color etc)... cute socks are so much fun! Though I do think we have too many at this point.... it'd be smarter to have 4 or 5 sets of the same 6 different designs rather than 2 or 20 designs. Haha! But the sorting and doing laundry by kid helps SO much!

For myself... I wear black socks 90% of the time and every could of years I toss out every single pair and buy several packs of new (b/c they change and fade).

Whew... that was a very long-winded reply!Angleickahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11698181933545494843noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6309855115602137306.post-49032127877144983642012-03-28T10:13:11.496-07:002012-03-28T10:13:11.496-07:00Take away the hullabaloo surrounding the film adap...Take away the hullabaloo surrounding the film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ best-selling young adult book and what you have is an absorbing film with a dire premise that stands pretty much on its own. Lawrence is also the stand-out here as Katniss and makes her seem like a real person rather than just another book character brought to life on film. Her logic was that she was better at soccer. My friend also pointed out soccer is a $35 a season fee where gymnastics is $50 each month. Time is a valuable commodity and kids need to potentially try several things before they find the things they are willing to give up precious free time to do. I agree with sticking with their commitment if it makes sense... and we definitely don't want to give them the idea that they can quitting frequently is okay. There is so much pressure on kids to do everything though. And some activities take A LOT of time. I *loved* softball, and maybe it was the same then as it is now... but practice or a game every night when you're 6-12???? Give me a break! Not to mention it does a number on their year-round commitments like Scouts... :-/

Great post!

~JoAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6309855115602137306.post-50811026823789616992011-07-19T10:54:54.242-07:002011-07-19T10:54:54.242-07:00I would not feel guilt about hiring a sitter to ca...I would not feel guilt about hiring a sitter to care for my kids while I work from home. The Animated Womanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17488961902951089206noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6309855115602137306.post-9960803128946511082011-07-19T10:50:32.186-07:002011-07-19T10:50:32.186-07:00I wouldn't feel any guilt about the arrangemen...I wouldn't feel any guilt about the arrangement you described here.

My wife is a "stay at home" mom, and I am a "work from home" dad. As in all illnesses, this should only be taken as anecdotical (with a dash of my own opinions as an asthma-allergy kid) since each case is unique and requires individual care (but of course, you know that already).

Mom saved my life at age 3 by rushing me to the ER, ignoring the red tape at the waiting room and busting through the doors and finding a doctor. Since then, she was totally overprotective. Mistake No. 1. There is a fine line between being cautious and being a hoverer and a master of the prohibited (in my case: ice cream, laughter, exercise). You might want to find a place where both you and your kids feel comfortable with the safety measures.

About the inhaler: we learned quite late that most formulas cause tachycardia (accelerated heart rate). Luckily I never had the need for overuse. 3 doses a day is pushing it, but again, if you're giving your kids some kind of freedom, a heavier use of the inhaler might be a trade-off.

I got my asthma under control in some sort of esoteric way. I underwent a two-year treatment where I would have monthly shots of "something" and daily drops of "other something". This doctor was famous exclusively for curing asthma, so he was booked solid most of the time. Looking back, the treatment was probably based on corticosteroids, which did have physical side effects (gain weight, hormonal imbalance, acne) but it was nothing serious and it got rid of the main health hazard, so, again, a trade-off.

Now, the allergies: i live in a place (Mexico) with, perhaps, more environmental impact than other places. Food, water and air are more hazardous. Perhaps that's why, despite being hereditary, my allergies are not that severe. They consist only of random sneezing (and this is not seasonal, happens yearlong) and a mild nasal congestion. Since for me it constitutes more of a nuisance than a real health risk, I prefer to weather the episodes out than to submit to countless needle pricks and pills, but again, this is only my case.

Hope this is insightful. In any case, it's good to share. Good luck and best wishes.Juan Pablohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02025522022261499847noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6309855115602137306.post-44858292117457260282011-07-12T07:14:36.393-07:002011-07-12T07:14:36.393-07:00I agree, I no longer go anywhere without an inhale...I agree, I no longer go anywhere without an inhaler and some Benedryl.
